5 Ways That You Can Save Time In Your Business

What’s the most valuable and limited asset in your business? TIME. How you spend your time can either propel your business forward or keep it in the same place. Good time management skills are key for success in any business and implementing these strategies will help take your business to the next level!

1. Better done, than perfect

It’s easy to get caught up in making something perfect and lingering over the task for hours. Set a deadline for the task and complete it even if it isn’t perfect. This goes for launching a product as well. Making decisions takes time and is exhausting. One of our favorite websites for completing tasks is Asana, which makes it easy to create collaborative projects and set deadlines.

2. Delegate

Many business owners feel the need to say yes to everything and control it all. By doing this you’re taking on more than you can handle.  Hire people to do all the tasks that don’t move the needle in your business. Get crystal clear about what your strengths are in the business and delegate the rest.

3. Automation 

Create automation within your business. The founder of Synchronicity, Kevin Wathey, uses Integromat. For example, he uses it to automate his podcast scheduling, which has 32 steps. This platform allows you to automate your work without any error. Another similar integration platform is Zapier

4. Create a morning routine

Your morning either sets your day up for success or failure from the first thing you do. You need to have the systems in place to have a great morning. Find the thing that gets you motivated and energized for the day. For some that is exercise. For others it may be meditation or watching some motivational content. Kevin’s non-negotiables for any morning routine are: 

1. Get up earlier than you think you should. 

2. Do something for yourself in the morning. 

3. Check at least one thing off your list to get the ball rolling, so that you begin the day with progress. 

5. Chunk your day

Break up your day into larger chunks, so that you can minimize switching between tasks as often. I find it helpful to work for 90 minutes straight on one task and then take a 20 minute break before moving on to my next task. The fewer chunks that you have, the less “start up” moments that you have. Each of these “start up” moments takes time for your brain to adjust and adapt to the next activity. Additionally, you should limit distractions while you are in these deep work modes. Every time you get distracted, it takes an average of 23 minutes to regain focus because different parts of the brain are activated every time you switch between tasks. It is necessary to create focus boundaries in your schedule, so that you don’t waste your day context switching. Context switching is when you jump between tasks and projects, and this greatly affects productivity.
