Create Powerful Affirmations

Create Powerful Affirmations

Affirmations are everywhere these days, but how do you know if they are actually working? In this article I will be discussing affirmation showing you how to create a powerful affirmation.

What is an affirmation?

There are multiple different definitions so here are a couple.

According to an affirmation is “the assertion that something exists or is true”.

According to Affirmations for Self-Healing by Swami Kriyananda, an affirmation is “a statement of truth which one aspires to absorb into his life”.

Affirmations Change Lives

Affirmations make you feel empowered and in control of your own thoughts and reality. You can repeat things to yourself every single day to feel better. When you feel secure with yourself you no longer seek validation from others. Since I have been using affirmations I am instantly able to turn a negative thought/feeling/situation and flip it into a positive situation without any effort. Most of the time I don’t even notice that I am doing it because I am no longer living in a state of negativity and self sabotage.

Can Affirmations be Used for Good and Bad?

If you are going throughout your day constantly repeating negative things to yourself such as “I am broke”, “nothing is working out for me”, and “I wish I looked like her” then you are living your life in the lowest vibrational state. In this state of self shame and sabotage  you are only inviting more of that into your life. You will begin believing these things and living in this vibrational state if you do not change the way you talk to yourself.

However, affirmations can be used to repel negative thoughts and raise our frequency so that we can become the best version of ourselves. We will be focusing on using affirmations to change your life positively. When one repeats a positive affirmation such as “I am friendly” their mind begins to believe it and as a result they will begin acting as a friendlier person.

Essential Qualities of Effective Affirmations

  • Deep down believing that the affirmation is true. It will not work if you don’t actually believe it about yourself.
  • Being consistent with your affirmation practice. Repeat them daily and make them a normal part of your routine and day-to-day life.
  • Be confident that your affirmations are working for you.
  •  Make them memorable.
  • Use affirmations that resonate with your soul on a deep level. The more personal the better.

How to Write your Affirmations

1. Write your affirmations in the present tense even if they are not presently true. For example, if you want a specific job instead of saying “I will be so excited when I get the job of my dreams” you should say “I am so excited every single day knowing that I am working towards the job of my dreams”.

2. Make your affirmations believable. This sounds obvious but you want to make them within reach of what you are doing right now to reduce cognitive dissonance and increase the effectiveness of your affirmation.

3. Structure your affirmations in a positive light. For example, instead of saying “I am losing weight” you should say “I am physically fit and in the best shape of my life”.

4. Make sure the words resonate with you deeply. You can use other people’s affirmations as a structure, but make them your own!

5. Here are some affirmation beginnings to get the juices flowing:

I am…

I embrace…

I invite…

I release…

I forgive…

I welcome…

I choose…

I love…

I am worthy of…

I deserve…

I create…

Add your own personal spin to these and make them really resonate with you.

We would love to hear how you use your affirmations daily! Do you write them on index cards and read through them? Do you write them on sticky notes and place them around  your house? Do you make them the screensaver on your phone? Let us know on Instagram @Synchronicityllc
